At the vote, the results were divided as follows: 74 “for” and 25 “against”, many Democrats did not support its approval.

As The Hill writes, at the beginning of this week, some politicians had time to comment on John Ratcliffe’s candidacy. In particular, US Senate Majority Leader John Thune mentioned Ratcliffe’s previous experience as Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and on the House Intelligence Committee.

He will bring valuable knowledge and experience to his new position

“Mr. Ratcliffe has the right experience and the right approach to the CIA, and I look forward to working with him in his new role,” added Senator Thune.

Republicans had hoped to confirm Ratcliffe by Tuesday or Wednesday, but Democrats blocked his confirmation at the last minute.

For example, Sen. Chris Murphy pointed to “serious concerns” among some of his fellow Democrats about Ratcliffe’s willingness to distance himself from the president’s political interests while serving as intelligence chief in 2020.

Radcliffe has made clear promises that he will keep the CIA apolitical and not fire any of the agency’s employees because of political preferences or opposition to the president

As CIA director, Ratcliffe has a number of priorities to address, some of which were discussed during last week’s hearings. He spoke of his desire to strengthen the agency’s intelligence-gathering capabilities and his support for Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which allows unauthorized surveillance of foreign targets.

We will remind

John Ratcliffe stated that the risk of a US conflict with a nuclear power is increasing because of the war in Ukraine. He also called the current situation the most difficult for US national security in history.
