“The Ministry of Culture reminds that the first meeting of the Working Group was held in Lviv in December 2024”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
“The second meeting of the Working Group is scheduled for the end of January 2025 in Lviv. We are convinced that the further work of the group and its results will demonstrate the readiness of both sides to honor the memory of the killed and dead – Poles in the territory of Ukraine and Ukrainians in the territory of Poland. These works will be carried out in the spirit of mutual respect, openness to dialogue and other values common to both peoples,” the statement reads.
The Ministry of Culture reminds that the first meeting of the Working Group was held in Lviv in December 2024 – the parties exchanged information on places that, in the opinion of each of the parties, need priority search and exhumation work, as well as additional attention.
Kyiv notes that at the moment the parties are analyzing the formed list, as well as checking the status of implementation of previously submitted applications for conducting search works and granting permits for exhumation.
The Ukrainian side has already approved the first positive decision on granting a permit for exhumation works, and the Polish side is also considering Ukrainian proposals, the Ministry of Culture adds.

On January 10, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced a “breakthrough” regarding the exhumation of the victims of the Volyn tragedy. Exhumation works will begin in April this year in the Ternopil region. They will be held by the Freedom and Democracy Foundation together with experts from the Pomeranian Medical University, specialists from the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, and Ukrainian archaeologists.
Against the background of these decisions on historical issues, the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to Poland is taking place today.
