The Scottish Government will stop using WhatsApp on work phones after the results of an external audit were announced. This is reported by Sky News, writes UNN.

Details

It says all “non-corporate mobile messaging apps” will be removed from Scottish government officials’ work phones from next spring. This ban will apply to all messengers that are not used for official government communication – not just WhatsApp, but also Signal and Facebook Messenger.

Addition

The Scottish Government commissioned an audit of the use of messengers in January 2024 as part of an assessment of the “openness and transparency” of its operations. It was preceded by criticism of Scottish officials due to obscene messages on WhatsApp, which began to be actively used during the coronavirus pandemic.

At the same time, some officials admitted that they deleted messages written during the pandemic.

We will remind

In Ukraine, the National Security Council announced a ban on Telegram on official devices of civil servants, military personnel and critical infrastructure workers. The decision was made due to threats to national security associated with the use of the messenger during the war.
