Details: Fortifications appeared on the edge of the Gosh military training ground near the city of Grodno, 6 kilometers from the Belarusian-Lithuanian border and the “Pryvalka-Raihorod” border crossing.
The fortifications may be part of one of the three “nodes of resistance” that the Ministry of Defense of Belarus promised to build in the Grodno region a year ago.
The self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, during his visits to similar structures near the border with Poland, said that they were being created in order to “prepare in advance for the defense of our Motherland in the areas of probable attacks.”
A satellite image taken by Planet Labs on December 14, 2024 near the northwestern part of the test site shows new fortifications near Grodno.
At the end of November 2024, a trench 340 meters long and 5 to 7 meters wide appeared on the eastern side of the road leading to the “Pryvalka” checkpoint. Such dimensions are sufficient for the movement of the tank. According to the cadastre, the area on which the trench is dug is not included in the territory of the landfill.
Infantry trenches almost 200 meters long and isolated fortifications appeared on the western side of the road.
In general, this territory has a nature conservation status and is included in the landscape reserve “Horodnyanska Pushcha”, it is called one of the most ecologically clean places in Belarus. The area where the fortifications appeared was damaged by a fire in 2019 and was then cleared of vegetation.
According to satellite images, active digging of trenches in the reserve began at the end of 2022-2023.
What happened before: The leader of the Belarusian opposition, Svitlana Tykhanovskaya, believes that the participation of the Belarusian army in the war against Ukraine is “100% impossible” due to the fact that in Belarus there is actually no support for participation in hostilities against Ukraine.
