At least since the fall of 2025, the Russian army has been increasing the number of its group in the Sumy region every month – the occupiers are reaching for the dense, large forest located northwest of Sumy.

Details: The main direction of the offensive remains the area captured by the Russians between the villages of Oleksiivka-Yablunivka-Yunakivka. On this side, the Russians have at once three “branches”, along which they reach the villages of Khotyn, Pysarivka, and Nova Sich.

The second, less noticeable, direction is Myropyllya.

Why is this important?: Transferring the war in Sumy Oblast from the villages, where the Ukrainian army is currently defending, to the forest will mean a significant complication of Ukrainian defense. After all, the fighting will move from a flat area to a dense forest with deep ravines.

As “Ukrainian Pravda” already wrote in the summer of 2025, in fact, we will get a second Serebryan Forestry.

It will be very difficult to knock out the enemy from a huge “green” that masks everything from movement to dugouts.
