The reduction of the Armed Forces was not discussed in Geneva, it was about the peacetime army – Hnatov

Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov stated that during the negotiations of the Ukrainian and American delegations in Geneva regarding the agreement on the “peace plan”, the issue of reducing the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was not raised.

Hnatov’s direct speech: “It was not about the reduction of the Armed Forces. It was about views on the number of peacetime Armed Forces. This is a very debatable topic.”

Details: According to the general, both Kyiv and Washington share the opinion that the best security guarantee for Ukraine remains an equipped and combat-ready army.

Hnatov noted that how the command plans to encourage servicemen to remain in service after the end of hostilities also depends on the final vision of the format of the Ukrainian army.

The Chief of the General Staff emphasized that this is a complex task that requires the involvement of all state institutions.

“It is necessary to understand what the Ukrainian army will be like, its numbers, financial support, social guarantees for military personnel and many other issues. This work is not only within the competence of the General Staff,” the general said.

Hnatov added that the General Staff already has a working vision of this process and the document is currently being developed.

• On the night of November 21, the American mass media published the entire list of points of the new “peace plan” of the USAwhich was transferred to Ukraine for perusal.
• In the initial version of the plan, it was said that Ukraine should give up Donbas and some of its weapons, as well as reduce the number of the Armed Forces to 600,000.
• However, later the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Serhiy Kyslytsia, announced that the USA and Ukraine had developed a new peace agreement on 19 pointsbut the most politically sensitive issues were left to the discretion of the presidents of both countries.
• November 25 Trump statedthat, in his opinion, the parties are very close to concluding an agreement. He too sent Witkoff for negotiations with Putin, and Driscoll with the Ukrainian side.
