The Dresden prosecutor’s office in Germany has launched an investigation into the partial collapse of a 100-meter section of the Karola Bridge over the Elbe River last week.

Details: The Prosecutor’s Office of Dresden and the police are investigating whether there is a criminal offense in the incident with the bridge. The investigation began after citizens filed several complaints against city council member Stefan Kuhn and unknown people.
Allegations under investigation include damage to property and endangering buildings.
The authorities of Dresden, in turn, created a special group whose task is to regulate the flow of traffic after the collapse of the bridge.
Prehistory:
- It will be recalled that a section of the Karola bridge, about 100 meters long, collapsed on the night of Wednesday, September 11. A pedestrian and bicycle path, as well as tram tracks passed along it. Because of the night time, there was no one on the bridge.
- Later, the collapsed section of the bridge was dismantled.
- The first Karol Bridge across the Elbe was built in 1892-95, and on May 7, 1945, it was blown up during the retreat of Nazi Germany.
- Construction of the replacement bridge began in the 1960s and was completed in 1971. The last restoration works were carried out in 2019.
