“On January 4, 2026, an explosion rang out in the yard of a house on Heroiv Dnipra Street while opening the trunk of a car. As a result of the explosion, a serviceman received shrapnel wounds. The woman who was nearby was not injured,” the message reads.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing under Part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: a terrorist act, i.e. committing an explosion or other actions that posed a danger to people’s lives or health.
Earlier today, the Kyiv police reported that they were investigating the circumstances of the explosion of an SUV in the Obolonsky district of the city. “According to preliminary information, there are injured people as a result of the incident. Police teams, canine experts, explosives experts and other services have been sent to the scene,” the message read.
The Security Service of Ukraine regularly reports on the detention of Russian agents, exposure and prevention of terrorist acts prepared by agents of the special services of the Russian Federation, in particular at military and civilian facilities. The Security Service records attempts to use recruited Ukrainians for terrorist attacks, including the organization of explosions, and calls on citizens to report suspicious offers.
The SBU emphasizes that a significant part – 22% – of those recruited by the Russian special services for their tasks in Ukraine are minors. RFE/RL’s investigative project “Schemy” previously discovered that Russian special services are massively using minor Ukrainians to set fire to the cars of armed forces servicemen and TCC buildings as part of the disinformation campaign of the Russian Federation, the purpose of which is to show that there is an active underground in Ukraine, which in this way opposes general mobilization.
