The prime minister said that Spain “as a major European country” will take part in decision-making in the event of a ceasefire and the possibility of a lasting peace in Ukraine. Sanchez said that this contribution should cover both reconstruction efforts and “military capabilities”.

When asked if he envisions the possibility of Spanish military personnel participating in a potential international peacekeeping mission, Sánchez said that Spain has already demonstrated similar steps “in other parts of the world.”

“If we’ve done it in other parts of the world, why can’t we do it in Europe?” he said.

Before that, Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez stated that it was still premature to talk about the presence of the Spanish military in Ukraine. At the same time, such a decision will require the support of the Congress of Deputies.

We will remind, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney suggested that his country can deploy its military in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Germany can monitor observance of the ceasefire regime in Ukraine if it is achieved.

As “European Truth” reported, on January 6, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the declaration on intentions to deploy troops in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.
