“You ask about ‘red lines’. We have them. Of course, I think it’s obvious to everyone that we are a sovereign state and we cannot negotiate on this issue, as it is part of the basic democratic values,” stressed Frederiksen.

She added that “of course we can discuss with the United States how to strengthen our joint security cooperation in the Arctic region.”

We have stated from the very beginning that our status as a sovereign state cannot be discussed, it cannot be changed… Our “red lines”, which are also our democratic rules, are not subject to discussion,” the Danish Prime Minister emphasized.

She also reported that she had asked NATO “to be more present in the Arctic region, in particular around Greenland.”

“We have worked very closely with the United States for many years, but we have to work together on the basis of mutual respect, without threatening each other. And so, of course, I hope to find a political solution within the framework of democracy and how we work together as allies,” Mette Frederiksen added.

As reported by “European Truth”, Prime Minister of Greenland Jens-Frederik Nielsen also made a statement about sovereignty as a “red line”.

The head of the Greenland government said that he did not know the details of the agreement, which on Wednesday, January 23 announced US President Donald Trump. However, according to him, a working group will work on it, which will include representatives of Denmark and Greenland.

We will remind, during extraordinary meeting of the European Council on Thursdayon January 22, the issues of transatlantic relations, agreements with the President of the United States Donald Trump regarding the settlement of the situation around Greenland, his invitation of the EU to the Peace Council, as well as the peace settlement plan for Ukraine will be discussed.
