The President of Poland has submitted to the Seimas a bill on punishment for “denial of OUN-UPA crimes”

Polish President Karol Navrotsky has submitted to the Seimas a bill on changes to the Criminal Code, which proposes to criminalize the objections of “crimes” committed by Ukrainian nationalists.

Details: The presidential initiative provides for amendments to two laws: the Institute of National Memory is a commission to investigate crimes against the Polish people, as well as to the Criminal Code of Poland.

The office stated that the purpose of the proposed changes is to counteract the spread in Poland’s “false statements on crimes” committed by members and staff of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists of the Bandera (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).

This also applies to the statements on “other Ukrainian formations”, which, as stated in the justification, “cooperated with the Third German Reich”. In particular, it is about the denial of “crimes of genocide committed against the Poles in Volyn.”

In addition to the historical aspects, the bill contains proposals for raising the amount of punishment established by law for the illegal crossing or organization of illegal crossing of the state border.

The Office noted that these legislative initiatives were included in the previous presidential bill concerning the amendments to the law On assistance to Ukrainian citizens.
