The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, showed a world map of the 17th century, on which North America is marked as Mexican America.
This is reported by France24.
Pointing out that the Gulf of Mexico is a UN-recognized name, she made a reference to US President-elect Donald Trump, saying: “Why don’t we call them (USA -ed.) Mexican America? Sounds nice, doesn’t it? He talked about the name, we are also talking about the name.”
Trump previously said he plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico “America’s Gulf with a beautiful ring.”
It’s even funny. Donald Trump proposed to impose a 2000% tariff on cars from Mexico
“It is appropriate. And Mexico must stop allowing millions of people to come into our country,” he said.
On November 26, the AP agency reported that Trump announced on the Truth Social social network his intention to introduce 25 percent tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada from the first day of his presidency.
With such measures, Trump intends to put pressure on countries to force them to fight more actively against illegal migration and drug trafficking, in particular, the supply of fentanyl.
These moves are likely to conflict with the current trade agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada, signed by Trump himself, which will take effect in 2020. The document provides for mostly duty-free trade between the countries, adds AP.
