“Ukraine once again confirmed its position on the issue of Donbass. “We stand where we stand” is the fairest and most reliable model for a ceasefire today, in our opinion,” Zelenskyy said.
The American side, he said, instead raised the issue of the free economic zone again.
“I want to remind you: in general, neither Ukraine nor Russia have ever been delighted with the idea of a free economic zone. Russia wants us to leave Donetsk, and we said that the most reliable position is to “stand where we are.”
He noted that at the negotiations in Abu Dhabi, no progress was achieved in the issue of the functioning of the ZNPP. According to him, this issue should be resolved in conjunction with, in particular, the reconstruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP.
“So far, no common understanding has been found regarding the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. All parties are aware that the issue of the plant must be resolved together with the issues of restoring the dam, water use and the overall ecosystem of this territory,” the head of state said.
Zelensky once again noted that territorial issues should be resolved at the level of the leaders of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. He confirmed his readiness for such negotiations.
Zelenskyi also said that the United States offered to end Russia’s war against Ukraine by the beginning of summer, as they will have another priority later – congressional elections.
Reuters reported on Friday that American and Ukrainian negotiators discussed the possibility of signing a peace agreement in March and holding elections in Ukraine in May.
The agency also reported that two key issues – regarding Donbass and ZNPP – continue to remain unresolved at the negotiations.
