An electronic petition to the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the banning of Russian-language versions of Ukrainian websites received the necessary 25,000 votes for consideration by the government.

Direct speech of the author of the address Oleksandr Leonenko: “For whom is the Russian-language version of the sites in Ukraine provided? If for Russians, then why are we creating sites for our enemy…? If for citizens of other countries, then the international language is English… If for Ukrainians, then all Ukrainians know the Ukrainian language. This is their duty in accordance with part 1 of Article 6 of the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state”.

Details: According to the author of the petition, the Russian-language version of Ukrainian websites is a “colonial rudiment”, “an instrument of cultural and informational expansion of the aggressor country” and “a threat to the information security of Ukraine”.

“In view of this, I demand from the Cabinet of Ministers to develop and submit to the Verkhovna Rada for consideration a draft law that will provide for a complete ban on the creation and operation of Russian-language versions of websites in Ukraine… I also demand that responsibility for the owners and administrators of websites for violating this requirement be clearly recorded in the updated legislation,” concluded Leonenko.
