The only refinery in Serbia is on the verge of stopping work due to US sanctions – the media

US sanctions against NIS have prevented the Serbian oil group from getting a crude oil tanker, which could buy time for Serbia’s only refinery, which is at risk of shutting down without new supplies. Source: Reuters citing sources familiar with the situation, “European Truth” Details: Unnamed interlocutors told the agency that Serbia has only a few days left before the NIS refinery in Pančevo will be forced to stop processing crude oil. The tanker Maran Helios, which was carrying 1 million barrels of Kazakhstani KEBCO oil for NIS in Serbia, arrived at the Croatian port of Omisal on October 9. However, the fuel never reached Serbia, a source familiar with the situation said. Croatian pipeline operator Janaf said this week that on October 8 it delivered all the oil that was owned by NIS and was in its system. Janaf noted that it has no scheduled deliveries to Serbia after that date, which indicates that it has not received the Kazakh KEBCO oil purchased by NIS. The crude oil to be received by NIS would have provided the oil refinery in Panchev for about 10 days. Russia and Serbia are still trying to find a way to lift U.S. sanctions imposed in January on NIS because of its mostly Russian ownership. The sanctions came into effect on October 9 after the final suspension expired. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić warned on October 9 that without new supplies, the plant, which provides most of the country’s oil products, will be able to operate only until November 1. However, Vučić noted that the fuel storage facilities are full, and the available reserves of oil products will allow Serbia to provide for itself until the end of the year. “There will be no shortage of crude oil, its derivatives and no energy crisis,” he said last week.”, — write: www.pravda.com.ua
