The largest oil refinery in southern Russia, the Novoshakhtinsky Oil Refinery, was shut down after a drone attack on the night of Thursday, December 19.
This is reported by The Moscow Times.
It is noted that the Novoshakhty Refinery — the only plant in the Rostov region with an annual capacity of 5.6 million tons of oil — was attacked by drones on the night of December 19, which led to a large fire at the plant.
The AVT-2.5−2 installation with a productivity of 7.14 thousand tons per day, which provides 50% of the plant’s capacity, came under attack. After the attack, it had to be turned off in an emergency. In addition, there was a fire at a tank with oil products, and the second primary processing unit with the same capacity — 7.14 thousand tons per day — was stopped.
On the night of Thursday, December 19, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the infrastructure and production facilities of JSC “Novoshakhty Oil Plant” in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, which supplies fuel to the Russian occupiers.
The Novoshakhty Oil Refinery was already under a large-scale UAV strike in June 2024. At that time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces confirmed the destruction of the plant, as a result of which the Russians lost 1.5 million tons of oil and oil products, which is about $540 million.
