The National Bank plans to abandon the calculation of the official exchange rate of the hryvnia to the Russian ruble, as well as to the Belarusian ruble, the Iranian rial, and some other currencies.
The National Bank reported on its official website that now in Ukraine there are two lists of currencies for calculating the official exchange rate — daily (33 currencies) and monthly (24 currencies). They were created many years ago, when it was technically difficult to calculate the official exchange rate for a wide list of currencies.
Currently, the level of automation of calculations has increased significantly, which has reduced the limitation of daily calculations. Now the NBU is going to form one daily basket of currencies to set the official exchange rate. It will include currencies of the first group of the classifier and currencies of countries that provide at least 95% of trade with Ukraine.
Thus, 44 currencies will remain in the basket, among which there will be no ruble.
The specified list will be adjusted once every three years on the basis of current statistical data on the turnover of goods. At the same time, it will be possible to adjust this list more often if, in terms of the currencies included in it, the turnover with Ukraine drops below the level of 90%.
