The Navy announced the defeat of the elite special forces of the Russian Federation on the Sivash drilling rig

The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine declare that they struck an elite special unit of the Russian Federation, which was on the drilling rig “Syvash” in the Black Sea.

“In addition to the technical means of reconnaissance and surveillance of the Russian occupiers, the enemy’s ATGM system was destroyed. Trying to pass off another defeat as a victory, the Russians are spreading a video of the alleged destruction of a boat of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the Lancet munition, when in fact we successfully used a kamikaze drone,” says the message published on November 3.

It is not specified which special unit was affected. The Russian command usually does not comment on reports of losses.

Ukraine’s defense forces are successfully resisting Russia’s attempt to establish military dominance in the Black Sea after the annexation of Crimea and the start of a full-scale war, the RFE/RL project Krym.Realii wrote last month. In the autumn of 2023, fighters of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that they had recaptured the so-called “Boyka towers” from the Russian military – the gas production platforms “Petro Godovanets” and “Ukraine”, as well as the self-elevating drilling rigs “Tavrida” and “Syvash”. But since then, the fighting for them continues, as the Russian side continues to try to capture them.

According to Krym.Realii, the “Espanyola” unit, formed in 2024 to defend the shores of the Russian-occupied Ukrainian Crimea from the armed forces, is fighting against Ukraine in this direction.

“Boika Towers” are oil and gas drilling platforms near the shores of Crimea in the Black Sea. Russia occupied them in 2015, and with the beginning of a full-scale invasion, used them for military purposes, in particular, as helipads and for the placement of radar equipment.
