The Ministry of Internal Affairs: eight people died, dozens were injured in Sumy due to the attack of the Russian Federation, among them there are children

In Sumy, as a result of a Russian attack on a residential neighborhood on the evening of November 17, eight people, including two children, were killed, Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko said.

The regional prosecutor’s office also noted that 20 local residents, including three children, sought medical help.

“More than 400 people have been evacuated from a building damaged by Russia in Sumy… Apartment-by-apartment inspections are underway in all high-rise buildings damaged by the attack. It is important to check every nook and cranny to find all the victims,” ​​Klymenko wrote in a telegram.

According to the prosecutor’s office, at least 10 high-rise buildings and vehicles were damaged in the city, the number of which is currently being determined.

“According to the investigation, on November 17, 2024 at around 8:37 p.m., using methods of warfare prohibited by international law, the occupiers launched a rocket attack on a densely populated residential neighborhood in the city of Sumy… Prosecutors, in cooperation with other law enforcement officers, are documenting the consequences of the shelling,” the message reads.

The Russian military regularly attacks Ukrainian regions with various types of weapons – attack UAVs, rockets, anti-aircraft missiles, and anti-aircraft missiles.

The leadership of Russia denies that the Russian army during a full-scale war inflicts targeted strikes on the civilian infrastructure of the cities and villages of Ukraine, killing the civilian population and destroying hospitals, schools, kindergartens, energy and water supply facilities.

The Ukrainian authorities and international organizations qualify these strikes as war crimes by the Russian Federation and emphasize that they are purposeful in nature.
