Literally: “In March 2022, Russia dropped an aerial bomb on the Mariupol Drama Theater, where hundreds of people, including children, were hiding. It deliberately turned the place into a mass grave, committing a flagrant war crime.

The inscription “CHILDREN” was written in front of the theater to make it unmistakably clear that civilians, including the youngest residents of Mariupol, are hiding inside from the Russian attack. For Russia, this was not a reason to stop, but another reason to strike.”
Details: The department called the celebration in the drama theater “deliberate terror.”
Direct speech: “In December 2025 – three years later – Russia will hold celebrations for the so-called “reopening” of the theater, on the very spot where the civilians of Mariupol were killed, accompanied by dances, concerts and celebrations.
This is deliberate terror and a deliberate attempt to avoid responsibility. Russia must bear responsibility for the fact that it took the lives of innocent people and for the genocide against the Ukrainian people.”
What preceded:
In Donetsk region, in the temporarily occupied Mariupol, the Russians officially opened a restored drama theater. A celebratory concert was held at the opening, and the leader of the “DPR” Denys Pushylin, as well as officials from the Russian Federation, came to the event.

- We will remind you that on March 16, 2022, the Russians dropped two 500-kilogram aerial bombs on the Mariupol Drama Theater, which became a shelter for hundreds of citizens. There is still no exact data on the number of people killed that day.
- At that time, in front of the building and behind it, there were inscriptions in capital letters “Children” – they should have been seen by the pilots of the Russian aviation.
- Later, the invaders dismantled the drama theater, leaving the front part as the “basis of reconstruction”.
- In August 2025, the Russians completed the renovation and announced that they had moved on to the interior decoration of the theater. At the end of the year, they planned to show the first performance there.
- In November, it became known that the occupiers were preparing to open a “restored” drama theater.
- And in December, the city’s main Christmas tree began to be installed near it.
