In response to this move by Hungary, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also summoned the ambassador.
It was emphasized to the Hungarian diplomat that Ukraine is categorically against the involvement of the Hungarian side in the election campaign in Hungary, which clearly harms the development of bilateral relations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called on the Hungarian side to stop aggressive anti-Ukrainian rhetoric in order to avoid negative consequences for relations between the two neighboring countries.
Separately, the Ukrainian foreign policy department emphasized that Ukraine, for its part, remains ready to develop constructive cooperation with Hungary.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijarto, said that he was not surprised by the summons of the Hungarian ambassador in Kyiv to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
“They once again expressed their objection to the fact that, as part of a national petition, the Hungarian people will express their opinion about the intentions of Brussels and Kyiv to spend the money of the Hungarian people on the functioning and arming of Ukraine,” Sijarto wrote.
He also complained that the Hungarian side did not receive an explanation either as to “why President Zelensky rudely insults Viktor Orban, or as to why the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is “Hitlerizing.”
Sijarto also expressed expectations based on what he told the Hungarian ambassador that “Ukrainians will continue to openly and rudely interfere in the April elections in favor of the Tisza party.”
“However, Ukrainians should be ready for the fact that we will protect the sovereignty of our country and will not allow them to influence the results of the elections,” the Hungarian minister wrote.
