“The very fact of the existence of an underground school in Kyiv, which educates children in the spirit of the “Russian peace”, in the fourth year of a full-scale war, is a situation that has no explanation. In the capital of a state that is fighting for its own survival, this is not just unacceptable – it is a direct threat to children and the state in which they live,” said Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi, commenting on the investigation by Slidstva.Info journalists.
He noted that he had given a verbal instruction to the head of the State Service for the Quality of Education of Ukraine to “immediately start an inspection of institutions in which children were fictitiously registered as students, but actually studied in the underground structure referred to in the investigation.”

“The actions of managers and teachers involved in this activity will be checked individually and in principle. Based on the results of the inspections, specific, tough decisions should be made regarding the organizers and persons who directly carried out this training. It is not only about finding out whether the relevant institutions have the right to provide educational services, but also about transferring materials to law enforcement agencies. In this situation, the Security Service of Ukraine should also give its assessment, given that such actions may contain signs of subversive activity,” Lisovyi wrote on Facebook.
At the request of Suspilny, the Security Service of Ukraine reported that they are investigating “possible illegal activity on the territory of the monastery of the UOC (MP) “Holosiivska Hermitage” within the framework of criminal proceedings. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.”
The State Education Quality Service of Ukraine also announced an inspection.

“The State Education Quality Service of Ukraine, together with law enforcement agencies, will take all measures provided for by law to bring the guilty parties to justice. We emphasize: in the fourth year of a full-scale war, the issue of compliance with legislation in the educational sphere, protection of children’s rights, and prevention of any manifestations of anti-state ideology in the educational environment is a matter of national security,” the statement reads.

Journalists point out that the school works at the monastery of the UOC (MP) “Holosiivska hermitage”. The director calls the institution a “family club”, however, it works according to the schedule like a regular school.
According to the investigation, schoolchildren’s documents are kept in licensed Ukrainian schools for formality, although the children do not study there. In total, more than 60 children from the 1st to the 9th grade study at this school.
In May of last year, Ukraine began checking the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (together with the Moscow Patriarchate) for ties with Russia. Then the nine-month term, which was set aside by the law for the church to prove the absence of ties with Russia, expired.
Currently, the court is considering the case on the termination of the activities of the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).
In 2023, a religious examination of the statute of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) showed the presence of a church-canonical connection with the Russian Orthodox Church, the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience reported. The service says that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church continues to be subordinate to the Russian Orthodox Church.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP) called this religious examination “illegal and conducted in violation of the law and beyond the scope of its research.”
