“Norway has decided to send two personnel from the Norwegian Armed Forces to develop further cooperation between (NATO) allies,” Sandvik said in an emailed statement to Reuters.
He added that dialogue is ongoing in NATO on how to strengthen security in the Arctic, particularly in and around Greenland. “So far, no conclusions have been drawn,” he said.

Denmark previously said it would increase its military presence in and around Greenland, “bringing in planes, ships and soldiers” in close cooperation with NATO allies. The Ministry of Defense of Denmark said that the involved forces, in particular, will protect critical objects and help local authorities.
This message appeared against the background of increased rhetoric of the administration of US President Donald Trump regarding the intention to include Greenland in the United States.
Trump says the strategically located and mineral-rich island is vital to U.S. security and the United States must possess it to prevent its occupation by Russia or China.
On January 10, Trump said that Washington was ready to “do something” about the island even without the consent of its inhabitants. The White House mentioned the use of American armed forces, purchase and other methods as possible options for establishing control over Greenland.
After returning to the White House in January 2025, Donald Trump repeatedly stated his intention to include Greenland in the United States.
