Details: Hungary, under the leadership of nationalist prime minister Viktor Orban, is constantly conflicting with the EU, which has already frozen billions of euros because of issues such as the treatment of asylum requests and suspicion of corruption.

However, a letter signed by 26 deputies of the EP states that Hungary not only does not seek improvements, but “further alarming regression.” The letter refers to the recently adopted law aimed at banning LGBTK parades in Budapest, as well as reforms aimed at undermining the independence of the courts and suppressing the government’s critics.
“Continue to finance a corrupt regime that openly undermines European values is unacceptable. Therefore, we urge to stop any Hungarian funding immediately using all available legal tools,” the EP members wrote.
The letter initiated by the Greens faction was also signed by representatives of several other parliamentary factions, including the Cross-Crossing ENP (European People’s Party), the Centrist Renew Europe and the Social Democratic.
