This information was confirmed to the Champion by Ivan’s brother Mykhailo Yaremchuk, who lived with him in Belgium.
“Vanya flew from Belgium to Poland on October 10, on the eve of the match between the national teams of Ukraine and Azerbaijan,” Mykhailo Yaremchuk told us. “He went on football business – usually before the matches of the national teams, a veterans’ game is organized, in which his brother traditionally takes part. But Ivan was unexpectedly arrested by the police at the Kraków airport.
He called me and quickly told me that he was being detained by the police. But at that moment I was on language courses, I could not speak. When he left and redialed, there was no contact with his brother. I contacted the guys who organize veteran matches, they started to clarify the situation from their side. They were confirmed at the airport that Ivan had been arrested by the police. His case was transferred to the prosecutor’s office, to the 3rd department. The case will be heard in the Krakow court.”
During all this time, Yaremchuk’s relatives could not contact Ivan.
“More than 10 days have passed,” Mykhailo worries. “I call every day, there is no connection. At the same time, my sister is dialing – she is next to me now, listening to our conversation. We do not know what Vanya was arrested for. Our friends who live in Poland called the police and were told that the case allegedly concerns Ivan’s stay in the Czech Republic.
Before moving to Belgium, my brother actually lived in Prague for 18 months. But we do not know what exactly he is charged with, because before that Vanya traveled around Europe without problems, participated in veteran matches. We want to help Ivan, now we are looking for a lawyer who can take over his brother’s case.”
