On Thursday, December 19, the state registers of Ukraine were subjected to the largest cyber attack by the Russian Federation in recent times. As a result of the attack, the work of the Unified and State registers under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine was suspended.
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna announced this on her Facebook page.
“Now, together with the team and specialists of other services, we are coordinating the work on countering a cyber attack and restoring systems. It is already clear that the attack was carried out by the Russians with the aim of disrupting the operation of the state’s critically important infrastructure. Our specialists are working intensively to gradually restore access to the registers,” she said.
According to preliminary information, only state registers were affected by the attack, there is no threat to other resources.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the first plan is to restore:
- state register of acts of civil status of citizens;
- unified state register of legal entities and individual entrepreneurs;
- of the state register of rights to immovable property and their encumbrances.
At the same time, Stefanishyna emphasized that the priority recovery time will approximately be up to two weeks.
“The enemy is trying to use this situation in its information operations to sow panic among the citizens of Ukraine and abroad. Thank you citizens for understanding. We will provide additional information on all important updates,” she added.
