The Kremlin hopes that the newly elected US President Donald Trump will take the initiative in establishing relations with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and take the first step for contact. This was stated by the dictator’s assistant Yuriy Ushakov in an interview with the Russian propaganda journalist Pavel Zarubin.

He states that “usually the president or head of government who comes to power is the first to make the call.”

According to Ushakov, the Kremlin is “not counting the minutes” before the start of negotiations with Trump on ending the war with Ukraine. The Kremlin hopes that sooner or later some signals from Washington will come.”

According to the dictator’s assistant, the future administration of the White House has not yet contacted the Kremlin regarding the preparation of Trump’s meeting with Putin.

The Kremlin expects that the discussion will first take place in a closed format at the level of administrations, and then they will decide questions about the further development of the dialogue, including a possible conversation at the highest level.”

On January 8, 2025, the US Special Representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that he aims to find a solution to end the war in Ukraine within the first 100 days of Trump’s presidency.

On January 9, US President-elect Trump said that Putin wants to meet with him, and the organization of negotiations has already begun. Speaking at a press conference about the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine, he expressed hope that it would take him six months to end it.
