It is noted that the appointment of Crawford as the chairman of the influential committee on intelligence of the lower house of Congress became known less than a day after the unexpected removal from this position of Mike Turner.
Johnson explained his decision by saying that the intelligence community needed a “fresh start” and that US President-elect Donald Trump had nothing to do with it.
At the same time, as the publication reminds, Turner differed with Trump in his views on Ukraine, becoming one of its strongest supporters, and advocated constant security assistance and acceleration of its supplies.
Rick Crawford, who will chair the House Intelligence Committee, said he supports military aid to Ukraine but opposes “sending your taxes on a European vacation to pay government officials’ salaries or subsidize farmers in some other country.”
In April 2024, he voted against the $60.8 billion aid package for Ukraine and its allies, which included $9 billion in economic aid.
