The Government has approved English language allowances. That’s who can get it

The Government approved the procedure for setting a salary for English to some categories of persons, the Cabinet representative in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk reported on March 7.

The payment is provided at the same time as the Law on the use of English in Ukraine and will be valid for four years.

The document specifies the establishment of English language proficiency at the level not lower than B2 on the Council of Europe’s Recommendations for Language Education (CEFR) in the amount of 10 percent of the salary, Melnychuk said.

Here are who will receive an English language allowance:

• Contact servicemen.
• Heads (deputies) of local state administrations.
• Police (medium and higher staff).
• Persons of the commanding staff of other law enforcement agencies and civil protection services.
• Prosecutors.
• Heads, members of the executive body, members of the Supervisory Board (Council of Directors) and other officials of state -owned enterprises, business companies, whose authorized capital is more than 50% of the state.
• Heads of state scientific institutions.
• Heads of higher education institutions.
• Employees of the field of education and science (heads of institutions, institutions, organizations).

On June 26, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bill No. 9432, which determines the use of English in Ukraine.

The document defines the categories of positions, which are obliged to speak English, standards the use of English in the work of authorities, local self -government bodies, in the fields of education, culture, transport, health care, etc.
