The General Staff reported on 159 clashes at the front during the day

“The enemy carried out 28 airstrikes, dropping 59 anti-aircraft missiles, 750 strikes by kamikaze drones, and carried out 3,886 attacks on the positions of our troops””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

Since the beginning of the day, 159 combat clashes took place at the front, the Ukrainian General Staff reported in a summary as of 22:00.

“The enemy carried out 28 airstrikes, dropping 59 anti-aircraft missiles, 750 kamikaze drone strikes, and fired 3,886 shots at the positions of our troops,” the message reads.

According to the command of the Armed Forces, the largest number of clashes during the day was in the Pokrovsky direction, where the Russian troops carried out 38 assault and offensive operations. “The greatest activity of the Russian occupiers is in the districts of Tarasivka, Vodyanyi Drugy, Elizavetivka, Promeny, Lysivka, Sukhoi Yar, Zeleny, Novy Trud, Pokrovsk, Kotlyny, Novovasylivka, and Nadiivka. The enemy used 16 guided aerial bombs on Pokrovsk,” the report says.

“The enemy is intensively attacking in the Kurakhiv direction. At this time of the day, there are already 17 clashes. Our soldiers repelled the attacks near Srybny, Slovianka, Petropavlivka, Andriivka, Kurakhovo and Dachny. One battle is currently underway,” the General Staff added.

In the Vremivsk direction, Russian troops tried to break through 20 times near the settlements of Yantarne, Kostiantynopolske, Uspenivka, Kostiantynopol, Novosilka and Privilne, two skirmishes continue until now, the command said.

In the Kursk area, according to the General Staff, on January 7, the Ukrainian military repelled 25 attacks by Russian forces, six more clashes are ongoing.

Earlier today, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced a “high-precision strike” on the command post of the 810th Separate Marine Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces in the area of the settlement of Bila in Kurshchyna.

According to the report, this strike and a series of recent operations against Russian formations in the Kursk region “were coordinated with the Ukrainian Ground Forces, which are now launching new offensive actions against the Russian armed forces.”

On January 5, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation confirmed that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation had launched a new assault on Kurshchyna.

Foreign observers write that the offensive of the Armed Forces in the Kursk direction is an attempt by Kyiv to improve its position on the battlefield before January 20, when Donald Trump will come to power in the United States. In the election campaign, the newly elected US president promised to quickly put an end to the Russian war against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the DeepState project and the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) report that the Russian army is actively capturing new territories to the south, southeast and east of Pokrovsk in the first days of 2025.

According to DeepState data, the aggressor is not going to storm the city head-on – but will focus on the roads leading to Pokrovsk.

ISW put forward the same hypothesis. According to the Institute’s analysts, the Russian Federation has concentrated its efforts on attempts to surround Pokrovsk – and this is why it is advancing in the Vozdvizhenka area 20 kilometers east of the city.
