The situation in the areas of hostilities remains difficult, but the Russian troops do not possess the strategic initiative to the full extent and at the cost of “huge losses” they have “insignificant advances” in some areas of the front, said the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.

“We can state that Ukrainian soldiers stopped the enemy’s spring-summer offensive campaign and continue to destroy the Kremlin’s further plans, taking asymmetric measures to eliminate the enemy’s advantage in personnel and weapons,” he wrote on Facebook on October 17.

Syrsky reminded that the Defense Forces are conducting counteroffensive operations in separate directions.

“Also, our units are successfully implementing assault actions in order to restore the lost position. In particular, Ukrainian soldiers continue to push the Russian invaders out of the territory of the Sumy region. Our active actions in the Pokrovsky district of the Donetsk region continue. We have some success in regaining control over the territory in the Zaporizhzhia region. There are other areas of the front where the enemy has no gains,” the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces said, without giving details.
