During the full-scale war, Russia lost about 1,242,290 of its military personnel, including 760 people – in the last day, such data was provided by the Ukrainian General Staff on the morning of February 3.

According to the report, among other Russian losses are the following:

  • tanks – 11,633 (+6 – for the last day)
  • armored combat vehicles – 23,985 (+4)
  • artillery systems – 36,855 (+53)
  • RSZV – 1,633
  • air defense equipment – ​​1,292 (+1)
  • planes – 435
  • helicopters – 347
  • Operational-tactical level UAVs – 122,388 (+1,171)
  • cruise missiles – 4,205
  • ships / boats – 28
  • submarines – 2
  • automotive equipment and tank trucks – 76,738 (+153)
  • special equipment – 4,058 (+1).

Russia does not officially disclose its losses. Moscow last reported the number of people killed in September 2022, when 5,937 people died.

Meanwhile, on January 23 of this year, journalists from the Russian edition of “Mediazon”, the Russian BBC service and a team of volunteers identified the names of more than 165,600 Russian soldiers who died in the war from February 2022, based on open sources.

As the journalists note, the list is not complete, as information about the death of not all servicemen becomes publicly available.

Estimates of Russia’s total losses (injured and killed) by international organizations and intelligence agencies are much higher. In December 2025, a senior NATO official told the Russian Air Force on condition of anonymity that, according to the alliance, the total number of killed and wounded in the Russian army could approach 1.15 million people. He noted that in November, Russia’s average daily losses reached approximately 1,100 people.

Kyiv also did not announce the losses for a long time, saying that the data would be revealed after the war. At the same time, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an interview with NBC News at the beginning of 2025, stated that since February 2022, Ukraine has lost more than 46,000 soldiers killed and about 380,000 wounded in the war.

On January 13 this year, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, said that in 2025, it was possible to reduce the number of personnel losses of the Armed Forces by 13%. He did not give details about Ukrainian losses.
