Details: Months of political tension following the appointment of a minority government led by Barnier have come to a head over the budget, which must be approved by parliament.
Opposition from all sides condemned the budget, which forced Barnier to consider pushing it through a special procedure without a vote in parliament.
However, the move could prompt Le Pen’s far-right National Union to form an alliance with the left-wing bloc and find enough votes to topple Barnier’s government.
Le Pen arrived at the French Prime Minister’s residence in the morning, and later in the afternoon, Mathilde Panot, leader of the left-wing radical party “France Invincible”, was supposed to visit the Prime Minister.
The talks are taking place while Le Pen, 56, is on trial for fraud in the European Parliament.
If found guilty, she could face prison terms and a ban from public office, barring her from running for president in 2027.
