“ On Thursday, the National Assembly of France for the first time in history adopted the text of a non-binding resolution proposed by Marine Le Pen’s “National Union” with a slight advantage. Source: European Truth with reference to Politico Details: At the meeting, 185 lawmakers voted in favor of a non-binding resolution calling on the government to scrap a 1968 agreement with Algeria that facilitates Algerian immigration to France. A total of 184 deputies, mostly from the left wing, voted against. The resolution, proposed by the National Union, was passed by a narrow margin thanks to the strong support of some right-wing and centrist MPs, as well as the fact that many MPs from President Emmanuel Macron’s party did not show up for the vote for unexplained reasons. This raised questions about the risk of normalizing the far-right party. Even if the text has no legal force, the vote is an important symbolic victory for Le Pen’s party, which has until now been isolated from centrist and left-wing MPs by the so-called “sanitary border” – an unwritten rule that prohibits cooperation with the far-right. “For the first time, the text presented by the National Union… has been accepted,” Le Pen said shortly after the vote, calling on Prime Minister Sébastien Lecorne to cancel the agreement. The text was also supported by 17 deputies from the “Horizonty” party – the center-right political force of former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe. In the past, even the head of Macron’s party, Gabriel Attal, has called for the deal to be scrapped amid rising tensions between France and Algeria. But Attal was absent during Thursday’s vote, and only 30 of the party’s 92 deputies voted against the text. We will remind: Macron’s trust rating has fallen to a historic low and is only 11%.
