The French government has officially confirmed the future delivery of six Mirage 2000-5F fighters to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Details: The publication emphasizes that this decision is a significant step for France, since the Mirage 2000-5F aircraft are still in service with the French Space Force and were originally planned to remain in service until 2029.

Direct speech retired U.S. Army Major General Gordon Davis, who served as NATO’s deputy assistant secretary general for defense investment: “The fact that France is willing to provide both aircraft and pilot training is great. That’s the key.”

Prehistory:

  • At the beginning of October, France announced that it would transfer Mirage 2000 fighters to Ukraine next year.
  • Back in June, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the transfer of several French Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets to Ukraine and the training of 4,500 Ukrainian servicemen as part of “new cooperation” with Kyiv.
  • Macron also stated that Ukrainian pilots and mechanics for Mirage 2000-5 fighters will be trained on French territory.
