“It is obvious that there is great uncertainty about whether Russia agrees to cease fire. But at the same time we understand that we need to keep the position of force and be responsible for them,” he said.

According to him, it is necessary to make a clear plan for assistance and strengthening the Ukrainian defense forces in the long run against the background of “requirements of Russia”.

“As you know, among the requirements of Russia is, in fact, a form of demilitarization of Ukraine, which is obviously part of the discussions conducted by Moscow. Therefore, it is important for us not only to continue helping Ukraine in the short term, but also to do so in the medium and long term,” the Minister said.

He explained that such assistance requires the mobilization of all possible financial instruments, in particular, combining efforts not only at the level of countries, but also with the involvement of EU opportunities.

We will remind, on May 16 in Turkish Istanbul negotiated between delegations of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. According to the media, during the negotiations, the Russian side made stringent territorial requirements, in particular: “Ukraine must accept neutral status without the presence of foreign troops or weapons of mass destruction”, as well as “recognize the loss of Crimea and four other regions.”

On that day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with the heads of France, Germany, Great Britain and Poland, had a common telephone conversation with Donald Trump.

According to the results of this conversation, the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk suggested that there could be “very difficult days” ahead.
