The former commander of the Belarusian unit in the Armed Forces admitted that the number of soldiers did not correspond to the status of the regiment

The former commander of the Kastus Kalinovsky regiment, Pavlo “Uncle” Shurmey, stated that the number of soldiers in the Belarusian unit does not correspond to the status of the regiment. When asked by Lusterka whether the Belarusian unit is a regiment in terms of the number of soldiers, Shurmei answered: “No. And, if we go back in history, this (what was called a regiment – ed.) was a job for the future. Well, as it is, so it is.”

At the beginning of October, the then commander of Kalinovsky’s regiment, Pavlo “Uncle” Shuremey, published a video message in which he announced changes in the leadership of the formation, as well as announced plans to expand political activities. According to him, now all key decisions will be made by the commanders’ council, and the veteran organization “Kalinovtsi” will be created.

In July 2024, the Kastus Kalynowski Regiment announced the closure of its recruiting center in Warsaw. At that time, it was reported that during the two and a half years of the war, several thousand Belarusians and tons of goods important for the front passed through it. Termination of own recruitment was carried out at the direction of the leadership of the International Legion of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. After that, new fighters began to be recruited through the system of this legion in Ukraine.
