The forces of the Russian Federation fired again at the Kherson thermal power plant, it can no longer work in the usual mode – Koretskyi

In the morning of January 2, the Russian military fired at the Kherson thermal power station again, there were at least four “arrivals”, Serhii Koretskyi, the chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, said.

“The Kherson thermal power station is again under fire from the Russians – artillery and drones. More than ten targeted strikes in two days this year. Another attack this morning. Four arrivals. Our specialists are working on the spot as much as possible: assessing the extent of destruction and planning further actions,” he wrote on Facebook.

According to him, due to the Russian shelling, the Kherson thermal power plant can no longer work in the usual mode, therefore various options for providing heat to the townspeople are being worked out with the local authorities.

At the beginning of December 2025, after another Russian attack, Naftogaz reported that the massive shelling “practically destroyed” the Kherson Thermal Power Plant.

Since the beginning of autumn, the Russian military has intensified its attacks on the Ukrainian energy and gas infrastructure, which supplies people with gas during the heating season. As a result of the attacks, emergency power outages occur.

The main complication after the massive shelling of the Russian Federation is the situation with the transmission of electricity between regions, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk reported.
