O’Callaghan, an Olympic and world champion in long-distance swimming (50-meter pools), swam the 25-meter pool with a time of 1:49.77.
She broke the world record of 1:50.31 set by Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong in 2021. In doing so, she became the first woman to swim in 1:50.
At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Molly won gold as part of the Australian team in the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relays, as well as the 200m freestyle. At the distance of 100 meters freestyle, she unexpectedly finished only fourth.
She won two more gold medals at the games in Tokyo.
