“Porcelain War” is a joint American-Ukrainian project. American cinematographer Brendan Bellomo became the co-director of the film together with Slava Leontiev, a ceramic artist and the hero of the film. The tape tells about Ukrainian artists during the war. Filming lasted more than a year, while Leontiev was serving in the Armed Forces.
The film previously won the Grand Prix at the 40th Sundance Independent Film Festival in the Documentary category.
On December 5, the State Film Agency of Ukraine reported that three Ukrainian films were included in the long official list of contenders for the Oscar in 2025: “La Palisade”, “Porcelain War” and the documentary film “Peaceful People”.
The Oscar ceremony will take place on the night of March 3 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
In 2024, the Ukrainian documentary film “20 Days in Mariupol” won the main Oscar prize. The film directed by Mstislav Chernov became the third Ukrainian film nominated for this award and the first to win a golden statuette. The film also won Best Documentary at the BAFTAs last February.
