Details: According to the publication, European countries are preparing for a possible significant increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees if the war in Ukraine is intensified and US assistance will be stopped.

“If Putin exacerbates this war and US support will disappear, and if it will increase refugee flow … We need a mandatory distribution of refugees from Ukraine throughout the EU in accordance with a fair mechanism,” said German Minister of Internal Affairs Nancy Feser.

At the same time, she noted that she is not currently expecting a new great influx of refugees and that it is a “script” that ministers should discuss. “Germany will support Ukraine as long as Putin’s terrible attack continues,” she said.

Austria’s Interior Minister Gerhard Carner, commenting on the possibility of a new wave of refugees, stated that his country had already “contributed” and will now focus on the integration of people who are already there.

“Austria has obtained more (refugees – ed.) Per capita than many other countries,” Carner told reporters.

Last December, according to Eurostat, more than 4.3 million Ukrainians were temporary protection in European countries. Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic were adopted most of the refugees.
