Details: According to the EC spokesman, the decision to continue or not continue temporary protection for Ukrainians after March 2026 has not been decided, and this issue will be resolved in conjunction with the Ukrainian authorities and representatives of the EU countries.

The European Commission spokesman stressed that “a common European decision is required that will ensure predictability, stability and more balanced influence on the EU Member States systems.”
“The EU remains devoted to support for those who are escaping from the illegal invasion of Russia into Ukraine … With the activation of temporary protection directive, more than 4.5 million Ukrainians have found security, shelter and opportunities in EU member states,” Marcus Lamart said.
Prehistory:
- As previously reported, the EU has not yet a clear plan for Ukrainian refugees in the event of a truce in the war.
- As of January 31, 2025, nearly 4.3 million people who escaped from Ukraine as a result of full -scale Russian aggression had the status of temporary protection in the European Union.
- The EU Council continued temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2026.
