The schedule of termination of imports of Russian oil by the end of 2027 was also set.
According to the proposal, new contracts for importing Russian gas will be prohibited from January 1, 2026.
Imports under current short -term contracts will be terminated by June 17, 2026, except for gas supplied to the internal continental countries under long -term agreements – they will be allowed by the end of 2027.
It will also be prohibited to conclude long -term contracts for the use of LNG terminals for clients from Russia or its companies.
EU Member States will be obliged to submit clear plans for diversification of energy supply with specific stages and measures for the gradual cessation of importing Russian energy resources.
The Commission emphasizes that Europe has sufficient infrastructure, a well -integrated gas market and access to alternative suppliers, which allows this transition without significantly impact on economics or energy.
The regulation also contains built -in flexibility mechanisms that take into account the realities of the market and at the same time provide legal certainty for companies.
The European Parliament and the EU Council are expected to consider this proposal as usual. It requires a qualified majority to approve the EU Council.
“Russia has repeatedly tried to blackmail us using energy as weapons. We have made a clear choice: to block this stream and finally complete the era of Russian fossil resources in Europe,” – said the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen.
On the eve of Luxembourg, a meeting of the EU Council on energy issues was held, at which the Council discussed a gradual rejection of imports of Russian energy, which still continue to buy member states.
Slovakia and Hungary were two countries of the European Union, which did not support the conclusions of the EU Council to strengthen energy security, in particular due to the abandonment of Russian energy.
