Details: The new Conflict Zones Information Bulletin expands on the recommendations regarding flights in Russian airspace that were previously included in document CZIB-2022-01R11 regarding Ukraine.

It is recommended to avoid flying in Russian airspace west of 60° longitude. The recommendation also applies to carriers registered outside the EU that are governed by EASA permits.

The recommendation is valid until July 31, 2025, but may be revised earlier if necessary.

“EASA, in cooperation with the European Commission, will continue to closely monitor the situation and assess the risks for operators from the EU and third countries operating flights to and from EU countries,” the regulator notes.

The statement recalled that currently none of the EU airlines fly to Russia or through Russian airspace, but some airlines from third countries continue to do so, despite the risks associated with the war.

The reason for the new recommendation was probably the death of the Azerbaijani Airlines flight, which was traveling from Baku to Grozny. The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, demands to punish the representatives of the Russian Federation responsible for the disaster.
