Also, the EU Member States will be instructed to prepare national plans for gradual refusal to import Russian gas, nuclear energy and oil by the end of 2025.
“In 2024, the EU still imported (from Russia) 52 billion cubic meters of Russian gas (32 billion cubic meters of pipelines and 20 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG), or about 19% of the total volume form ” – says in a document, a statement of the road map of authorship of the European Commission, addressed to the European Parliament, the Council of the EU and others, which is at the disposal of” European Truth “.
Ten member states were imported Russian gas in 2024, three member states were still imported Russian oil, and seven member states imported enriched uranium or uranium services from Russia, “the document stated.
With regard to Russian gas, the roadmap stipulates that new contracts with suppliers of Russian gas (pipeline and liquefied) will not be concluded, and existing spot contracts will be stopped by the end of 2025. This guarantees that by the end of this year, the EU will reduce the remaining supplies of the remaining Russian gas. All Russian gas imports will be stopped by the end of 2027.
Regarding Russian oil, whose share in 2024 was about 3% of the total amount of imports of the European Union, new measures are planned to combat the Russian shadow fleet that illegally transports it.
As for the nuclear industry, the proposals of the European Commission will include measures to reduce Russian imports of enriched uranium, as well as restrictions on new contracts for the supply of uranium enriched with uranium and other nuclear materials originating from Russia.
The European Valley of Radioisotopes is also envisaged, designed to provide medical radioisotopes to the EU by increasing its own production.
