Among other things, Russian gas is now 18% of the European Commission’s imports compared to 45% in 2021, the European Commission President said.
This was achieved by increasing the exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States and an increase in gas imports from Norway.
“These energy partnerships, including the imports of LNG from the United States, remain strategically important to the European Union,” she said.
Speaking of a roadmap for deprivation of energy dependence on Russia, von der Lien did not confirm the exact date of its publication, but the agenda of the European Commission indicates that it could happen on May 6.
Earlier officials of the European Commission gave up the idea of including the ban Imports of Russian LNG within the packages of sanctions against Russia, as some Member States have promised to block restrictions.
Instead the EU executive body evaluates different legal instruments To include in the road card, including the ban on companies to sign new gas contracts with Russia or to provide them with legal grounds for termination of current contracts.
