The EU is working on a “military Schengen” to simplify the movement of troops – media

The European Commission is developing a “military Schengen” plan, which should simplify the movement of soldiers, equipment and ammunition through the territory of the European Union. The initiative is designed to increase the EU’s readiness for a potential military threat from Russia. Source: “European Truth” with reference to radio station RMF FM Details: The European Commission is to present a document on “military Schengen” on November 19. Brussels officials working on the project say it will, among other things, harmonize rules and procedures across the European Union and create a network of military logistics corridors using roads, airports and seaports. All this is aimed at ensuring the efficient transportation of soldiers and equipment in case of war. “Currently, European bridges, roads and railways are not adapted for the rapid movement of tanks, soldiers and military cargo. In the case of transportation from the west to the eastern flank, the tanks can get stuck in tunnels, in complex bureaucracy, and the bridges will not withstand the passage of these vehicles,” explains Dariusz Jonsky, a member of the European Parliament’s defense committee. As it was established, those responsible for the “military Schengen” project are preparing it in close cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance. Military officials indicate the main problems that must be eliminated so that NATO troops not only move freely throughout the territory, but also do not have problems with regulation in individual countries. Currently, military transport is forced to wait for permission to travel for several days. The European Commission is also considering the possibility of introducing a “dual purpose solidarity rolling stock”. Among other things, we are talking about specialized wagons and locomotives that could be used in the general military transport pool. We will remind: on October 16, the European Commission presented the road map of EU defense readiness until 2030. Read in detail about how the European Union is going to strengthen defense and what place Ukraine will occupy in it.”, — write: www.pravda.com.ua
