The European Union has decided to provide Ukraine with 76 million euros of grant assistance for the construction of Eurocolia between Lviv and the border with Poland, reported in Telegrams of Ukraine, Minister of Community and Territories Alexei Kuleb.

According to him, it is the first full -fledged section of the future direct railway connection with a European track with Europe: Sknyliv – bridge II, with a track standard 1435 mm.

“Eurocolia is a shorter time on the road, new opportunities for transit, unloading of checkpoints. At the same time, it is an investment in Ukraine’s economic stability, trade development, export strengthening, new opportunities for business and logistics. It is a clear signal that Ukraine is already part of the European transport network, and our integration is not happening in the future, it continues now, ”Kuleba wrote.

Historically, Ukraine has inherited from the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, the railway track is broader than in Europe. Now that Ukraine wants to join the European Union, it also wants to solve the problem of the railway track. The width of the Ukrainian track – 1520 millimeters – differs from the European track – 1435 millimeters.
