Details: The project of the Legislative Resolution of the European Parliament, which will be put to the vote on May 8, refers to the continuation of the simplified import regime for Ukrainian steel and iron after June 5, 2025.

Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the suspension of the regulation (EU) 2015/478 on joint import rules EU support framework, “the European Commission’s explanatory note reads to the document’s project.
The European Commission emphasized that, in order to ensure the continuation of trade liberalization measures for Ukraine after the expiration of autonomous trade preferences for Ukraine on June 5, 2025, “it is necessary for the proposed regulation to come into force on June 6, 2025.”
It is offered to introduce preferences for Ukrainian iron and steel for three years.
If the vote in the European Parliament is successful, the legislative resolution must be approved by the EU Council and will come into force after the official publication.
As it was reported, during the plenary session on May 5-8, the European Parliament will also discuss peace in Ukraine and the return of Ukrainian children stolen Russian children.
Recall that the European Commission does not plan to continue the regime of autonomous trade measures for Ukraine (the so -called “trade visa waiver”), which is valid until June 5. However, it is planned to ensure a smooth transition to a new scheme where all conditions of trade liberalization will be recorded in the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
