The Embassy of Ukraine in South Korea has issued recommendations for Ukrainians staying in that country against the backdrop of the declaration of martial law there.

“In connection with the declaration of a state of emergency/martial law in the Republic of Korea, we ask citizens of Ukraine who are in the territory of Korea to follow the instructions of local authorities, refrain from participating in mass events, in particular of a political nature, and follow official messages through embassy channels of Ukraine in the Republic of Korea… In case of going out, we recommend that you keep your identity documents with you. We ask you to remain calm,” the message reads.

If necessary, citizens of Ukraine are advised to contact the hotline of the Embassy of Ukraine for assistance or consultation (+82 10 7227 5696).

South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol declared a state of emergency in the country on December 3.

“To protect liberal South Korea from the threats posed by North Korea’s communist forces and eliminate anti-state elements … I hereby declare a state of emergency,” Yoon said in a live televised address to the nation.

According to him, martial law was introduced to root out pro-North Korean anti-state forces and protect the constitutional order.

As the local agency Yonhap writes, this decision was approved after the opposition Democratic Party submitted a shortened draft budget to the parliamentary budget committee and made a motion to impeach the state auditor and the chief prosecutor.
